January – February 2019 Full Moon

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! A very good Monday for the full winter moon to fall on. The days have been slow but I'm grateful for them. Just chipping away at goals, visiting with family and friends, starting Winter semester teaching design at Grand Valley, reading a lot, and watching State basketball a couple of times a week. There have been a few sunny days that trick me into thinking we're closer to spring than we actually are. On those days, I remind myself it will be here soon enough and try to soak in what's right in front of me.

Grand Rapids Magazine Wedding Feature

I wrote an article for Grand Rapids Magazine for their annual wedding section. Hard copies will be out this month so if you're local, check it out! I can't say just yet the exact topic but I can tell you life continues to amaze me with the way a seemingly roundabout and screwy path somehow all makes sense when you look back on it.

Root Cause Reset with Ditea Wellness

I'm about 1 month into my 3-month nutrition program with Diane. It's hard to express how life-changing it's already been! You never hear much with health-related programs that these programs only work if you do. Diane has been an AMAZING coach, mentor, teacher, and hype woman as she likes to say and I highly recommend her if you're in a similar place of unhappiness with food & lifestyle habits. However, you need to be ready to commit to it just as much as your coach if not more to take what you're learning and make the change. This is the underlying insight I've found so far. That and a shrimp kale salad I made that is THE BEST I EVER HAD. More about my 1st grocery crawl here.

Austin, TX

I'm heading to Austin, Texas this moon cycle. It's a bit too fresh for me to share all the details right now but it's an opportunity I'm super excited for! Joel & I went to Austin a couple of years ago and I only took a photo of the State Capitol. Seriously, only 1 photo during our couple days stay. haha. Any restaurant recommendations or places I need to visit?!

New Year

We rang in 2019 with good friends playing board games and Euchre. The weather turned icy around midnight so we stayed cozy at our friends' house talking about what we were hoping for this next year and laughing and celebrating while playing cards around the kitchen table. We dressed up for the heck of it and then quickly changed into more comfy clothes after the ball dropped on TV. It was a wonderful way to thank the last year and welcome the new one.

Joel's Trail Race

I have to brag on my man for a second. Joel placed 2nd for a 10K trail run a week after the holidays! He wasn't familiar with the route and had only run a few times leading up to the race. So yeah, he rocks. While he ran, I hung out in a warm lodge nearby reading my book, writing, & getting my nutrition forms filled out. We all have the things we enjoy.

No Drink January

We're halfway through 31 days of no alcohol. We thought we were the only ones doing a challenge like this. After telling a few friends, acquaintances, and coworkers about it, we discovered we're not the only ones. A lot of people are doing it and it's kind of a thing, I guess? It's called Dry January. I had no idea. Either way, it kind of sucks. Haha. I was optimistic to start. I enjoy more restful sleep, mental clarity, and energy. Now that I feel more balanced and like we've taken a good break, I'd enjoy a cold one any time now.
